Independent Internet Research Sites
Below are a number of internet sites showing gentrification in Brooklyn and its effects. View the sites one at a time. Look at all photographs and read all captions. After you have viewed a site, summarize what the photographer was trying to show about gentrification in Brooklyn.

HW # 1- The Stories of One Block
The block of South Elliot in Brooklyn’s Fort Greene is just one of many that tell the story of the borough’s changes. Each student has the same introduction but a different character’s personal story. As you read annotate, and answer the following questions in your binder:
1. After reading this article, what do you think is the state of Brooklyn today?
2. Is there a Point of View (POV)? If so, do you agree or disagree with the POV?
3. Were there places in the reading that you became confused? How come? What strategies did you apply to try to clear up your confusion?
4. Where did the text leave you hanging (wanting more information)?
Write one discussion question to bring into class tomorrow.
